7. The Savannah Cat
This gorgeous feline is a newcomer to the scene of purebred cats and has only been recognized by the International Cat Association since 2001. The Savannah cat is actually a hybrid of a domestic shorthair and a Serval (an African wild cat). Although, its roots are deep in the wild, this feline is known as very loyal, lovable, affectionate and almost “dog-like” in nature – perfect for homes that can’t decide between a cat or dog companion – plus, it can reach weights of around 30 pounds. However, before you hit the pet listings to find one of these large-eared cats, know that a Savannah kitten can run you anywhere from $2,000 up to $30,000 dollars. In addition, this cat is difficult to breed, which makes kittens even harder to locate.
These exotic breeds may not be for everyone, but they are definitely beautiful and add another level of excitement for cat-fanciers around the world. If you are thinking about one of these unique breeds, be sure to find a reputable breeder or a rescue organization that can tell you more about the individual animal you choose.
