This breed’s name comes from two of its features. First, the breed originated in Scotland and second, its ears appear to be folded forward. This naturally occurring mutation that affects the cat’s cartilage throughout its body is not detrimental to its health. The breed’s popularity has risen thanks to its unusual ears and extremely affectionate personality. Like the American Curl, all Scottish Folds are born with straight ears that won’t begin to curl until they’re about 3 weeks old. Another trait that has increased the popularity of the breed is their habit of sitting in “Buddha position.” Buddha position is when the cat sits on its behind, hunches forward a bit, and places its paws on its belly.
