A cat hisses only when it feels threatened, scared and angry. This is accompanied by an arched back, raised hair, drawn back lips, spitting and flattened ears. The hissing cat is saying, “BACK OFF!” which is what you should be doing. Cats normally only hiss when they are ready to defend their territory or feel scared enough that this is their last line of action. Be sure to remove what is bothering your feline, before it goes into attack-mode.
